POSITION SUMMARY

 

Provide ESL service to a student in our WAY program who is receiving ESL instruction. We are looking for a position 6-10 hours per week at Livingston ESA WAY Lab, with flexible scheduling around the student's schedule, and will be paying $30 per hour. This service would start in January, 2025 and end in June, 2025.

  Qualifications:

- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with EL certification or Masters in TESOL (Temporary

   Certification may be possible)

- Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with students, staff and parents.

- Competency in student management and supervision.-might not be necessary with individual sessions.

- Ability to work with newcomers and willing to learn about students' backgrounds and culture

- Capability to provide own transportation

- Knowledge of SIOP and cooperative learning strategies

- Ability to meet the language support needs of EL students through lessons centered around common

  core/WIDA standards

- Support students in reading, writing, listening, and speaking

- Implements a comprehensive assessment system (e.g. formative, interim, and summative) for the purpose

  of monitoring student achievement and utilizing the data to guide and inform instruction.

- Flexibility to deliver instruction in synchronous and asynchronous formats with proficiency in using

  learning management systems.

 

 

 

OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and/or ABILITIES

REQUIRED

  1. Strong verbal communication skills.
  2. Ability to remain confidential when exposed to sensitive information.
  3. Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team and demonstrate flexibility A minimum of 1-year of experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit use hands to finger, handle, or feel; talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and is a standard acceptable level for this environment. Is directly responsibility for student safety, work output and well-being.

 

The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment.
